I recently had the pleasure of joining Seth Goldstein on the Entrepreneur's Enigma Podcast. It was a great opportunity to reflect on my journey as an entrepreneur in the tech and SaaS space, and I’m excited to share some of those insights with you here.
We recently launched The SaaS Pulse Show just 3 months ago, and it’s already a hit with +50 amazing guests. If you haven’t had the chance to check it out yet, click here to listen to our Podcast. And if you’d like to be featured on the show, reach out to me to be a guest!
Seth and I took a trip down memory lane, reminiscing about our early days as solopreneurs nearly a decade ago. Back then, we were both figuring things out as we went along—what we often describe as “building the plane while it’s flying.” Over time, I’ve managed to construct more of that plane, reducing the risk of crashing and gaining better control over my business.
My journey into the recruiting space wasn’t entirely planned. I’ve always had a passion for working with SaaS and tech companies, so when I started SaaS Talent nearly ten years ago, I found myself doing a little bit of everything—recruiting, lead generation, software development. A few years ago, I decided to narrow my focus to what I do best: helping companies find top talent in the U.S. and Latin America. This focus on nearshore recruiting is strategic; it avoids the challenges of time zone differences, making collaboration smoother and more effective.
Becoming an entrepreneur wasn’t something I initially set out to do. I started my career in a traditional job, following the path that was expected of me. It wasn’t until my mid-thirties that I seriously considered starting my own business. By then, I had a family, which made the leap more complex but also more rewarding. If you’re thinking about entrepreneurship, my advice is to start young if you can—before life’s responsibilities multiply. But even if you start later, embrace the journey; it’s worth it.
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is balancing the various aspects of running a business, especially as it grows. From sales and marketing to operations and delivery, every component requires attention. Figuring out how to scale my business effectively is what keeps me up at night.
Despite the demands of entrepreneurship, I deeply value my personal life. My family, especially my partner Jen, plays a huge role in keeping me grounded. It’s not easy to maintain relationships while running a business, but open communication and mutual understanding go a long way.
As I reflected on my journey, I realized that the most important thing I carry with me is passion. I recently re-listened to Steve Jobs’ Stanford commencement speech, where he talks about looking in the mirror each morning and asking if you’re truly happy with what you’re doing. If the answer is no for too long, it’s time for a change. For me, passion is the driving force behind everything I do, and I believe it’s essential for long-term success.
